The department of Chemistry began its journey at Dumkal College in 1999. At that time, B.Sc. Hons and General Courses, were offered by the department in the college. At present, the Department consists of three full time teachers and three SACT faculty members, one full time laboratory skilled worker and one contractual laboratory attendant. The teaching-learning methods employed are in the form of classroom lectures, audio-visual modes using power point presentation as well as practical classes. The theoretical papers in the UG courses consist of different specialized segments of chemistry, such as Organic, Inorganic, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computational and Analytical Chemistry. Advanced level courses, such as mathematics and statistics for chemists, analytical clinical biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, and so on, have been given more emphasis by the Department as an integrated part of the Skill Enhancement Course in the new CBCS curriculum of University of Kalyani. The department also offers different practical courses such as Inorganic Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis, Inorganic Synthesis, Organic Qualitative and Synthesis, Physical Chemistry Experiments, Biochemistry and Analytical Practical, Instrumental Methods of Analysis and Computer Programming & its application to Chemistry. The department also provide students with instrumental facilities such as UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Potentiometer, Conductometer etc.
