The Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Class Cell of Dumkal College was started in 2021 to promote the special interests of students in the reserved category. For affirmative action, the college is committed to effectively implementing the Reservation Policy as stipulated by the government. The SC, ST and Other Backward Class Cell of Dumkal College ensures equitable and accessible space of learning to its category and minority students. The Cell makes all efforts to empower these students. The Cell runs orientation programme and provides information on various scholarships provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for the category students. The Cell provides special inputs in areas where the students experience difficulties. The Cell also organizes Talks and Seminars on the current issues to keep the students engaged and informed.
The UGC had recommended that the Universities/Colleges/Institutes must have a committee and a separate cell to deal with backward class students like SC/ST/OBC-A &OBC-B to assist and support Higher Educational Institute to meet certain requirements which will be made mandatory in order to give effect to a policy. The SC, ST and Other Backward Class Cell of Dumkal College works accordingly.
In view of the recommendation of the U.G.C, Dumkal College have constituted an internal committee of SC/ST/OBC Cell. The Cell started working with Convenor, Arindom Biswas, Assistant Professor of Geography and following members from 2022.
SC/ST/OBC /PWD reservation as per University rules and practices to be followed in both “Part-A” and “Part-B” under the Non Sponsored category. With regard to reservation Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates will be provided on the basis of SC: 22%, ST: 6% for all courses under non sponsored category.
